Make Your Entrance: Getting to Prom Limo-Free

May 15th, 2013

Faviana Satin Halter Dress 6177

You strut into the prom and everyone stares. You look perfect, beautiful elegant dress, not a hair out of place and make-up done to a T. But how did you get there? Did you come with friends or just your date? Riding in style or decide to spend your budget elsewhere? We have compiled a list of limo-alternative rides for you to take to prom this year:

Drive Yourself: If you are on a budget and don’t want to empty the rest of your piggy bank on a short ride to and from prom, driving yourself is a good alternative. This option gives you a lot of freedom to arrive and leave when you want to. No scheduling or worrying about hourly costs.

Borrow Your Parents Car: Don’t have a car? Or think your parent’s beautiful new sports car will impress your date? This is another budget beater. Odds are you’ll just have to fill the tank and make promises not to wreck their car.

*Note on taking your or your parents car: Always make sure you clean the inside and outside and have a good CD or playlist handy. Good music can make any awkward moment or lull in conversation instantly better.

Trolley: Trolleys are becoming all the rage for prom. They are classy and can fit a dozen of your closest friends. If you fill a trolley with close to 10 couples- 20 people total, it should only cost $30-$50 each. So if you are rolling deep this prom, look into renting a trolley complete with driver and decorations.

Party Bus: Party Bus’s are very comparable to stretch limos but offer a more room and are easier to move around in. They offer an area for refreshments, fun lights and speakers to play your own music. They fit more people and can be way more comfortable than limos.

Classic Car Rental: Expensive but very original! Renting a classic car can mean borrowing some money from your parents but it’s also an incredibly original way to impress your date. Rolling up to Prom in a Rolls Royce or Jaguar will definitely earn you some jealous looks from the guys and swoons from the ladies. But tonight is all about you and your date, so choose a model you feel comfortable driving and make sure she approves.

School Bus: If you want to go to Prom with a large group of people but you all are on a budget and don’t mind riding in a less classy fashion, school buses are a great limo alternative. They are much less expensive to rent and you still don’t have to drive. They typically can fit anywhere between 40 – 50 people safely.

So be original and limo-free this prom and choose a ride that will be sure to impress or simply one that won’t break the bank. Remember, no matter what vehicle you arrive in, always drive and travel safely.

Stay Safe and Sober Prom Night 2013

March 25th, 2013

Safe Sober Prom NightProm night is right around the corner and while high school students are busy planning the most exciting night of the school year, parents are stressing about their children’s safety. And they have every right to be. Prom night is considered the deadliest night for teenagers because of the prevalence of drinking and driving.

According to Students Against Destructive Driving (SADD), nearly three quarters of students (72%) have consumed multiple alcoholic drinks by the end of high school. They also report 70% of high school juniors and seniors expect their peers to drink and drive on prom night.

As an attorney, David Daggett, of Daggett Shuler Attorneys at Law, has encountered the life-shattering effects of underage alcohol use. Wanting to devise a way to reduce the number of alcohol-related teen tragedies he started the Safe Sober Prom Night program.  By presenting the students with a pledge to stay safe and sober on prom night, he hopes to make an impact by encouraging teens to stay safe and drug and alcohol free during Prom  Since its inception more than 400,000 students have signed the Safe Sober pledge.

To be apart of the movement, take the pledge at www.safesober.com.

To DIY or Not to DIY: Prom Hair

March 7th, 2013

Dress Goddess

You have the dress. You have the accessories. But what are you going to do about your hair? Should you make an appointment at the salon or do it yourself? By doing your own hair, you can save a decent chunk of change but there are some things you should be sure of first.

Pick a style that coordinates with your dress. Formal dresses scream up-do while a more elegant dress may earn a French twist. There are millions of options for what you can do with your hair: messy up-do’s, braids, curly, half up-do’s, ponytails, straight etc. Determining your face shape can help you determine what looks best on you. Round faces usually look best with an up-do to accentuate your features and lengthen the face. While pulling your hair back into a French twist half up-do may be your best bet if you have a smaller face. If you have a longer, oval face a half up-do or loose curls can help frame the face giving a more romantic and sexy look.

Since you are already thinking about doing your own hair for prom, odds are you already have the tools you’ll need. But in case you don’t, here are the tools of the trade that could help you out:

·         Curling Iron

·         Flat Iron

·         Hair Spray

·         Hair Ties

·         Mousse

·         Brush

·         Shine Spray

·         Hair Dryer

·         Bobby Pins

·         Bejeweled Pins and Clips

Once you have chosen a look and acquired the tools necessary to execute it, start practicing. Make sure you try out different hairstyles leading up to prom night. There is nothing worse than frantically running around the house looking for hair products to help style your third hair-do of the night while your date is waiting downstairs awkwardly with your parents. If during your practice sessions you just can’t get it right – it may be time to see a professional. If you have a look that you absolutely adore that is too intricate, it may be worth the pretty pennies you’ll be spending. The same goes for if you cannot find a way to secure your style. Stylists are professionals and have the good stuff when it comes to tools and sprays so they can secure your style all night long.

Whether you go pro or DIY, your hair will look stunning if you try out different styles and looks that compliment your dress and face shape before the big night.

Prom Asking Ideas for Girls

February 6th, 2013

6603-ADBack in the day, most girls agonizingly waited for a guy to ask them to Prom, but not anymore. Whether you go to an all-girls school or you just want to make sure the guy of your dreams doesn’t get snatched up, we’ve got the best ideas on how to ask your guy to prom:

The Dude’s Dude: We’ve all heard the saying before… What’s the best way to a man’s heart? Through his stomach! In most cases that’s completely accurate. So bake him cookies and write a note or design cupcakes with the icing saying “Will You Go To Prom With Me?” If your guy isn’t partial to sweets, a prom pizza is another idea. Buy a bag of pepperoni and order a pizza. Write the word “Prom?” in pepperoni on top. He’ll be so surprised he may even take a breath to answer before he devours it.

The Into-His-Car Guy: So your guy loves his Camaro, his Jeep, or even his rickety fixer upper… what better way to grab his attention than by decorating it with streamers, balloons and (washable) car paint? He’ll walk out of school ready to race homeand be stopped short by his newly pimped out ride. The stunned look on his face will be priceless and he’ll have no choice but to say yes. Odds are he’ll love it so much he’ll drive around with the decorations for a few days after, too.

The Sporty Guy: We’ve got an idea for the all-around jock in your life. Spirit bags for him on the day of a big game can get him super amped and ready to dominate. Make a bag filled with his favorite pre-game treats (Gatorade, power-bars, maybe candy or bake something for him to enjoy after the game) and decorate the outside with his number and a big “Will you go to prom with me?” to make your intentions clear. Even if he isn’t in season, spirit bags are fun and show your support. Maybe he loves rocking his football number or is constantly sporting his favorite basketball player’s jersey. Make him feel like a star on and off the field and you just might hit a homerun!

The Football Guy: Step 1: Buy balloons. Step 2: Buy his favorite candy bar and tie the balloons to it. Step 3: If you can acquire his football jersey or his favorite player’s jersey, put it on. Step 4: Make a sign that says “Go his name or his number! You’re Awesome!”And on the other side write “Will You Go to Prom With Me?” Step 5: Shoot him a text to meet you at the stadium at a certain time. Step 6: Head to the end-zone to score a prom-sized touchdown. He’ll love that you’re taking an interest in what he loves and will love seeing you in his jersey. You may even want to bring a football so you can throw around after you get your “yes.”

There are plenty of variations of these ideas for you to go with that will yield the same results – a very impressed guy and an awesome prom with the person you really wanted to go with. There’s no need to wait around, ladies. Go get your man!

Planning a Charity Event

May 10th, 2012

When it comes to planning a charity benefit, your options are limitless. Whether you opt for a casino night, Mardi Gras, or Hollywood theme, charity events are a time to bring people together for a fun night of fundraising for a good cause. Don’t let the stress of planning get in the way of the cause. Follow these tips to ensure your charity event is one to remember:

  • Choose a venue and date. Pinpoint a date at an easily accessible location. Keep in mind what essentials the location will provide, such as tables and chairs. Don’t be afraid to ask vendors to donate or discount their services. Many Philadelphia wedding venues make perfect locations for charity balls.
  • Set the dress code. Let your guests know on the invitation if attire is formal, such as “black tie affair,” or “formal attire requested.” At a black tie affair, men are expected to wear a tuxedo or a dark suit and tie. Ladies should opt for gowns or formal cocktail dresses, such as Dave and Johnny Strapless Dress 7590 or Evenings by Allure A537.
  • Set Seating Arrangements. If you’re having a sit down dinner, work out the seating arrangements in advance.
  • Entertain Your Guests. Whether you hire a band or a DJ to perform at your charity event, music is one way to get your guests into the giving spirit. If the charity event has a website, put up a form where guests can suggest songs they’d like to hear at the event.
  • Hold an Auction. Auctions and raffles are a great way to generate charity funds. Save money on prizes by asking friends or local businesses to donate baskets, tickets, etc.
  • Give Favors. Send your guests home with a memorable favor that will remind them of the event.

Thorough planning and attention to detail ensures you’ll have a successful fundraiser. When the night comes, relax and enjoy the company of others at your charity ball.

Successfully executing an event can be very challenging but very rewarding.  If you are not prepared to plan your formal event, contact the professional event planners at The Warehouse at EBE today at 888-323-2263.

Safe and Sober

May 2nd, 2012

High school students all over the country are getting ready for the most exciting night of their high school year – prom night. Although it’s a night of fun, dancing, and dressing up, prom is also the deadliest night for teenagers due to the prevalence of drinking and driving.

According to The Partnership at Drugfree.org, and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), 70% of high school juniors and seniors expect their peers to drink and drive on prom night. David Daggett, of Daggett Shuler Attorneys at Law, says his work as an attorney gave him firsthand knowledge of the life-shattering effects of underage alcohol use. He created the Safe Sober Prom Night program as a way to reduce the number of alcohol-related teen tragedies. The program encourages students to take the pledge to remain safe and sober on prom night.

For 22 years, Safe Sober Prom Night has been promoting positive peer pressure to encourage high school students to make smart choices on prom night. Take the pledge at www.safeandsober.com.

All students who take the pledge will receive 20% off shoes and accessories at www.DressGoddess.com with promo code SAFESOBER.
